This miniature painting depicts the Virgin Mary surrounded by a divine aureole. Inspired by the Christian stories brought by European Jesuit missionaries visiting the Mughal courts, Mughal artists produced their own renditions of significant Christian moments or symbolic figures.
This painting especially shows rarity in its distinct Mughal characteristics through the black curls of Virgin Mary and the architectural styling in the foreground.
